Our approach
Keiyo Women Trust (KWT) is a not for profit making organization, based in Kenya working towards improving and changing the lives of vulnerable girls and young women in Kenya.
As an indigenous women-led organization, KWT champions the rights of women and girls among indigenous communities through strengthening and supporting their capacity and agency to influence policies, decision making processes, and address harmful cultural practices while promoting positive culture
We focus on addressing structural barriers that prevent or limit women and girls’ exercise of their economic rights as well as to challenge social norms that continue to undermine their role and stifle their potential to thrive.
Our Vision
A society that truly empowers and provides equal opportunities to women and girls to reach their full potential in their socio-political, cultural and economic development.
Our Mission
We are committed to the reduction of vulnerabilities and all forms of discrimination against women and girls in a democratic society by advocating for their rights, advancing their capacities to lead, organise and tell their story and influence gender sensitive polices.
Our Values
Our actions are guided by our values. Our guiding values include: Integrity, fairness, empathy, non-discrimination, transparency and accountability.
Our Programs
Ending Violence against Women
Violence against women and girls takes many different forms in Kenya. These include intimate partner physical and/or sexual violence, non-partner sexual assault, FGM, sexual exploitation and trafficking, and harmful practices such as bride price and accusations of sorcery.
Environment, Energy and Climate Justice
We promote gender responsive interventions and innovations in response to climate change, natural resource management and enhance access to efficient and renewable energy technologies for women and girls and influence planning processes at all levels.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
KWT’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming is based on the principle that all girls, boys, women, and men should have access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities year-round.
Youth Empowerment
We promote and advocate for skills as an important factor to address the challenge of high youth unemployment in Kenya and improve youth transitions to decent, gainful and dignified work.
Humanitarian Response
KWT engages in Humanitarian assistance with the aim of saving lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of man-made crises and natural disasters.
ICT For Development
To source, package and disseminate information using ICT tools to ignite community driven initiatives in gender, environment, disasters as well as prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations.
The Girls Go Tech (GGT) Programme
The Girls Go Tech (GGT) Programme aims to encourage underprivileged secondary school girls to purse traditionally male-dominated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related subjects to maximise their future career options.
Health & Wellness
We offer various programmes aimed at promoting health and wellness for community members.
